COUNCIL MAP & JURISDICTION

Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts serves girls in 186 towns and cities throughout Central and Western Massachusetts. It may seem BIG, but it's not without local flavor, quality service and friendly faces.

Geographic Highlights
  • Major transportation and travel routes through the council include Interstates 90, 91, 190, 290, 291 and 391 as well as Routes 2, 9, 146 and 202. In favorable travel conditions, it takes about 2 hours and 20 minutes to drive the 120 miles from Worcester to Williamstown.
  • GSCWM is made up of five counties: Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, and Worcester.
  • Land features vary across the council jurisdiction including the Berkshire Hills, Wachusett Mountain Range, Purgatory Chasm, Mt Tom, Blackstone Valley River Region, Mount Greylock, the Appalachian Trail, Quabbin Reservoir, Lake Chargoggagoggmanchaugagoggchaubunagungamaugg, and the Holyoke Mountain Range.

Population and Membership
  • Based on current registration numbers, girl membership in GSCWM is approximately 17,500.
  • The 2005 Census counted 1,602,394 persons in the council, with approximately 135,876 being girls between the ages of 5 and 17.
  • GSCWM boasts three cities with over 50,000 residents: Worcester (176,000), Springfield (152,000) and Chicopee (54,653). However, nearly 76% of the council's population is located in small cities and towns and in rural areas.



Camp Properties
In addition to the three Council Service Centers, GSCWM is fortunate to have numerous camping facilities.
  • GSCWM owns seven camp properties: Bonnie Brae (East Otis), Green Eyrie (Harvard), Kinnebrook (Worthington/Chester), Laurel Wood (Spencer), Lewis Perkins (South Hadley), Marion White (Richmond), and Neyati (Leicester).
  • Beautiful, serene, and set away from fast paced life, these properties offer amazing opportunities for programs for girls of all ages!
  • Facilities are available for troop, resident, and day camps.
