2008 Summer Camp

Girl Scout Cookie Sale

Day Camp - A Unique Experience

At Day Camp, girls gain leadership skills through their daily activities and make connections with other girls and our amazing staff. Girls have opportunities to be leaders in their groups and to make decisions cooperatively. At camp, girls have fun and make new friends in a setting where they feel safe to be themselves and to try new things. All girls entering grades K-12 in September 2008 are encouraged to join the camp community this summer at Girl Scout Day Camp!

Open House (Rain or Shine)

Make plans now to find out more information about camp.  At the Open Houses, you will be able to meet the Camp Director, take a tour of camp, learn more about the programs, including what a “typical” day is, and get answers to your camp questions.  At the July Open Houses, we’ll have a campfire, marshmallows to roast and an opportunity to meet the entire day camp staff.  Be sure to RSVP so we can be ready to welcome you!

A Typical Day

Day Camps run from 9:00am - 4:30pm. A typical day of camp begins with our enthusiastic and professional staff greeting campers and leading an opening all-camp circle or flag ceremony. Campers spend time each day in both small groups of 8-10 girls, and in larger groups called "units" with their counselors. A typical day may include swimming, weekly-theme activities, crafts, games, special activities planned by the girls, songs, and campfire cooking. Campers end the day with an all-camp circle or flag ceremony where staff and campers reflect on the fun of the day and get excited about upcoming activities.

Camp Staff

Staff at our day camps are mature, responsible adults selected for their special skills and abilities. They are trained in camp skills, Girl Scout program, safety and child development. Many staff are full-time college students, recent college graduates or have full time jobs in schools. Staff participate in a week-long training session prior to the campers’ arrival. Staff undergo an extensive hiring process which includes interviews, reference checks and a criminal background check through the state of Massachusetts or the state in which they reside.

Transportation

Unless otherwise indicated, bus transportation is included in the registration fee. Buses run from points throughout Central and Western Massachusetts. If you’d like your camper to ride the bus to day camp, you must indicate this on the registration form. Parents/guardians are responsible for transporting campers to and from a bus stop or to camp. Two adult counselors will be on each bus to check in and supervise campers. Details about bus procedures and directions to camp will be included in your child’s confirmation packet. Click here to learn more about bus transportation.

Buddies

Camp is sometimes more fun with a friend. Your camper may request to be with one “buddy” in the same group. We will place your child with her buddy whenever possible. Both buddies must be in the same grade and must request to be placed in the same group.
